ENS Leaderboard was inspired by .eth Leaderboard, a project @greg launched in December 2021. .eth Leaderboard measured the most followed accounts using a .eth username on Twitter.

.eth leaderboard was a catalyst for Ethereum Name Service adoption.  It made ENS not just a crypto thing, but a worldwide phenomenon. 

.eth Leaderboard attracted people like Jimmy Fallon, Shaq, and Trey Songz to change their names on Twitter to a .eth, bringing in many curious mainstream observers.

Unfortunately, post-Twitter's acquisition by Elon, crucial APIs for .eth Leaderboard were taken away and now make .eth Leaderboard infeasible to run.

This is why we need Farcaster! Farcaster's data is open and available to everybody and don't rely on a centralized company's APIs. Additionally, Farcaster has the added benefit of verifying ownership of the .eth username, which wasn't possible on Twitter.

Farcaster ENS username support has been around for 6 months. Following a discussion with @alexpaden, we discovered that only 1,705 out of the total 58,016 registered users have set up ENS usernames, accounting for just 2.97% of the network's user base.

Why do we believe the adoption of ENS is relatively low?

As @ghostlinks points out here, this feature is criminally underused as less than 3% of you use it. I hope this leaderboard makes those of you not using the feature fomo in and join in on the fun of being a .eth on Farcaster!

If you don't know how to set it, it's easy! Just go to settings and "Add new ENS name".
