In a world where most crypto projects have points programs, the core product will be what matters most. However, there are still best practices for points design. great read - one thing I haven't quite seen in the web3 points meta is a points sink. e.g. using points to open loot boxes for skins/themes (any non-tradable "cosmetics"). clearly, it doesn't apply to the bulk of dapps (rainbow wallet, maybe?) and it opens some vector for legal issues too.

totally - I think that's because of the complexity of creating rewards/redemption, vs. only giving out points :) once you introduce redemption, then there are costs. on the legal side, i'm not sure, but tagging in @jchervinsky

I can see some legal issues here, but I'm not sure it's too different from what the web2 folks are already fighting (e.g., "loot boxes are gambling"). That's not to downplay those issues, and maybe if you add crypto, it all gets worse due to optics alone. But I don't think legal should be a blocker if done correctly.
