An annual tradition - last night at the Turkish Republic Ball 🇹🇷 which celebrated the 101st anniversary of the founding of the republic of Türkiye It’s really important to me to share my heritage through cultural activities - even though they’re only 1/4 Turkish - I’m also gonna *try* to teach them the language too- at least a little bit.

That’s so great and important for kids to understand their heritage! Do you speak Turkish to them? Me and hubby are both Italian but our 9-years old struggles a bit with the language as he speaks it only with us and when we are not with other people 😅. It’s so difficult!

I don’t at all but want to start. But also I speak french and she’s in language immersion school - and next year my other daughter will start kindergarten in the french program so I’m thinking of going all in on french with them My husband doesn’t speak Turkish or French so it’s all on me 😵‍💫. Feels overwhelming since we’re an English only household My dad and grandma teaching me Turkish growing up was a great gift - try to stick to Italian at home and you’ll be so happy you did! And so will your kiddo too - maybe not now, but when they’re grown for sure!

Yes probably French seems a good choice so they can also use it at school and it will be an additional environment where they can practice and use the language. Definitely we will stick with Italian but I honestly (and naively) thought it would be more natural to raise bilingual kids.
