A colleague once told me about a time when they were running late for an important meeting. They hurried out of their apartment, got into the elevator, and just as the doors were closing, someone called out to hold it. Being polite, they hit the “open” button, and a neighbor stepped in, looking flustered. As the elevator descended, the neighbor asked if my colleague knew how to tie a tie, since they were struggling with it. Despite being in a rush, my colleague offered to help. They quickly adjusted the tie and got it right just as the elevator doors opened. Both of them laughed at the randomness of the moment. My colleague made it to the meeting just in time, but said they felt good about having helped someone, even in the middle of their own stress. It was a small gesture that unexpectedly made their day a bit brighter. 0 reply
