For my 18th birthday my parents gave me a 1 bedroom apartment. It is very conveniently located and there is almost no traffic in my direction. Then my grandmother at 23 left me her apartment - also nothing special, 1k in an old neighborhood, in an old house. I rented it out, I didn't do any repairs, just did some cleaning work and threw out the old furniture. Renting an apartment helped me to give up an uncomfortable job and go to another, slightly less paid, but closer to home and calmer....
