In 2007, @pmarca laid out a framework that unknowingly described blockchains (see “level 3” platform)

The irony is blockchains as “level 3” platforms are the missing ingredient to enable “layer 2” in his framework, because they deliver trust.

Frames are the “layer 2” platform that we get as result

I’ve recently been writing Frames as a shift from 1d computational space to a 2d computational space while still on a flat surface (2d). 

I think the layering ideology helps me find better language for it.

Helpful framing, pun intended.

Almost calls to mind the infinite mirroring effect when on an elevator, while it’s moving up and down.

When I was building Mediachain, @denis and used to talk aboit blockchains adding a “z-axis” to the internet, b/c you can compose one thing on top of the other, with all the history of that thing in tact.

An image on Insta is a 1D rectangle, whereas NFTs can have a z-axis of their entire onchain history.
