As a former VC I am disheartened to see shit like this making the rounds Why are we obsessed with adding more digital slop for people to interact with What parents really need is to turn off literally every piece of technology, and just hang out with their kids as 100% present, engaged adults

Interesting. I agree with all of this, yet don’t think it’s mutually exclusive. My views are very much like gun views, I can teach my kids about the guns and the proper handling of them, but don’t need to give them outright access to them. They have their benefit in moments, and not in others. I think same is true for phones, devices, and will be for ai too. As far as present with kids, whole heartedly agree, also don’t think it’s mutually exclusive. Both can exist with good style and technique.

I guess my issue is mostly with the VC categorization of all of it as its own hot area of investment, not how a parent chooses to incorporate it. Google isn't a search tool for parents, it is just a good search engine (maybe not anymore) I don't think AI for parenting tech is really a massive investable category that requires all these "made for parents" startups. Parents don't need more technology shit in their lives, they need more quality time away from that.
