Is the human population becoming more fragile, post-COVID, to illness and diseases?

Parenthood is killing me (via infection). COVID can have what's left.

There’s compelling research that COVID has long lasting effects on the body: immune, cognitive, vascular, heart, etc. Viral effects are so complex, dispersed, and subtle that it can take decades to unwind the truth, but the socially accepted view that survivable viruses are “no big deal” won’t age well IMO.

Certainly feels like it. Though also a parent of young kids so they get a 2 day cold and mine lingers for 2 months.

Sheltering yourself and sterilising your environment consistently leads to… you guessed it, weakened immune responses. And that’s just a small part of the story.

have the viruses and bacteria population evolved to be more aggressive post-COVID? to some extent we naturally selected viruses and bacteria able to survive masks, distance, anti-bacterial gels... now it's our turn to adapt to them in the cat-and-mouse race for evolution.

Yes. I’m a physio with long COVID and have read most of the papers associated with it, and a lot of the me/cfs ones too. How much detail would you like? Lol.

Yes, some research suggests exposure to certain viruses results in being more immunocompromised & susceptible to complications of other viruses. Also, some of the conditions most frequently diagnosed in those with Long Covid are complex & increase fragility across almost every body system.
