First time casting here. 

I've developed a few widgets for iOS. Here is a widget for /build, and I'm seeking advice when it comes to themes, color theory, a11y, etc.

Definitely. I'm trying to stick to the /build theme but it's always good to try different styles

I find yellow text easier to see than white text.

I like the left one more. Maybe drop in a few emojis like 🔨 👨‍💻 there.

You can maybe try something like this...

Make the font sizes and font choices consistent. Having 3 makes the font sizes comparatively smaller, but you can have a nice empty right hand side where you probably can add the build logo. Also add an orange outline since you used orange in your design.
