Seeing so much hate for this diagram that would have been accepted as common wisdom 5 years ago makes me sad, and makes me somewhat more scared for the future of the world.

I hope we can snap out of this mode of thinking soon.

I understand your concern and I agree it’s exactly what is happening right now. 
The so called polarisation. 

But I have faith we are on the path to move away from it. 
I believe we are all able to stop the behaviours described by the author:

The two roots of evil:
1) Zero-sum thinking
2) Not being able to do the mental shift described below

It’s just a matter of time.
