@base Modular structure: Bedrock separates the proof-of-stake system from the OP stack, as a rollup may use proof-of-stake, proof-of-validation, or zk-SNARK. This separation enables systems like Cannon to be used as proof-of-stake in the system. Cannon allows Geth to run as is, and through it, support proof-of-stake similar to or equivalent to the EVM. Geth is responsible for executing Ethereum transactions and smart contracts. After the Ethereum merge update, nodes were split into two layers: the consensus layer and the execution layer. Geth is the execution layer of an Ethereum node, and its execution, together with the consensus layer, turns a computer into a full Ethereum node.

@base The Bedrock Optimism update was released on June 6, 2023 and provides tools for launching Optimistic Rollup blockchains. Bedrock has several features: Reduce Cost: Bedrock optimizes data compression. It also removes all gas costs involved in running the EVM to record data on the Ethereum network. Reduce Deposit Time: Bedrock supports a reorganization of the node software that significantly reduces the amount of time users have to wait to deposit cryptocurrencies. In previous versions of Optimism, the wait time was around 10 minutes, but with Bedrock this time has been reduced to 3 minutes.
