people hate this but people should hate blatant rent seeking behaviours even more.

if channels ever gets decentralised it needs a sort of renting system where you pay rent as a % of total worth and that worth being the price you'd be happy for someone to immediately take it off you.

how about just using the proven ENS system? what's so bad about a system that allows squatting names? under your proposed system, @javabu.eth would have to pay quite a lot to upkeep /politics or else it could suddenly get sniped overnight by a well-funded attacker, while the channel doesn't have a lot of immediate value to him (yet he does an incredible job of moderating it in a bipartisan and fair way)... seems like an obvious net negative to plutocracize public goods like this

I still think that ENS system unfairly rewards early birds & squatters rather than incentivise for best use of resources.

what does your system do to prevent squatting? seems like it's still possible, it just forces the sale to whoever has the most money (biggest bankroll, not the best usage). shouldn't his sale be voluntary and not forced through some pricing mechanic? squatting and voluntary sales works well enough for DNS right? "best use of resources" just sounds like populism, i don't want a system where a brand i know and trust (like /politics or Wikipedia.com) can be sniped away from it's curator by corporate interests just because they can monetize it harder
