Anyone running k8s clusters at home? what do you use as servers? Raspberry PIs and then just use many to get high core count? Need around 8-16 cores for the intended workload and would love to replicate across 2 homes for redundancy. Preferably x86 with some RAM as well :smile:

What kind of workload (or data layer) are you planning on running that needs to support multi-region availability like this? Most homelab workloads are sql-based apps, you could definitely sync files to a replicant and setup hot failover, I do that for 1 of my apps (password mgr)

Love it! For what it's worth, I switched back to gitlab cloud, not worth selfhosting - it was my most complex k8s workload (tunneling ssh was very unreliable with my old VPN-based ingress, but I think maybe that's simpler with the new cloudflare tunnels), along with Nextcloud (too bloated), but I kept gitlab CI on-prem

Also, reducing to a single host *may* improve the failover workflow, but IMHO the time might be better spent on just having good backups and no failover. I just wiped my whole cluster, started over and restored from backups (volsync) in about 2hrs. Setting up hot failover for 1 simple workload (vault warden) took days.

Intending to run something similar to a company’s IT department (Gitlab, Fileshare, Collabsoftware, LDAP, Messaging App, CRM/ERP) 

Can get away with single host K8s setup with that spec so that’s easiest then just need to replicate 😅 at least that’s my thought process
