I just got the Ray-Ban Meta sunglasses and I’ve found them pleasantly surprising

A few quick thoughts:

1/ common misconception is that they’re AR/VR - not the case, they just have cameras at the front of the glasses but the lenses are normal sunglasses lenses

The sunglass arms have little speakers and they are voice activated (“hey Meta, what’s the price of BTC?”) but otherwise normal glasses

2/ they’re reasonably priced - $300 for glasses + headphones + camera combo won’t break the bank (more on the camera next)

3/ the pictures are very candid and sweet

Nobody sees you pulling out your phone for the customary smile when taking a pic- they just keep living their life in the moment

5/ pretty cool/worth it purchase 1 week in!

Will come back to this thread maybe in 30/180/360 days to see how I feel about them

4/ I prompt Meta AI more than I prompt GPT when I’m wearing the glasses for answering quick questions about sports/weather/etc

Stuff you’d otherwise pull out your phone to find out

Makes you think about how Meta is capturing AI search volume through a hardware distribution strategy
