was at the clinic and met this 10yr old boy, being managed for complications he’d been battling with as a sickle cell patient. needed physical therapy eventually but it got me thinking. why do people still have children together despite knowing what they would suffer IS LOVE ENOUGH TO IGNORE IT? my answer is no but i need to know your thoughts on this https://frame.weponder.io/api/polls/29785

This has not an easy answer. My vote is no because i don't think of children as the cherry of a family or marriage but rather as parts of ourselves we agree to pass forward, not expecting any return back. And I don't believe anyone (without a christian view) would choose to have a kid that will suffer. I have a 0.011% of passing Hemophilia B forward and I gave up, for now, on using my eggs. But this is my choice. I can't be responsible or judge others. I am 100% pro abortion when the children can't live on themselves (cerebral palsy and others) because this person will never be able to choose even if they want to remain alive. However, we are talking about sickle cell disease, which can manifest even without the specific type of hemoglobin. I have done a screening of my chromosomes 20 days ago and it's still not ready. How can I demand people to make conscious choices of what they don't know about?

Genetics is still "a mystery". People will believe color of hair and eyes is genetic and stuff. Some still believe diseases are curses from god. We must separate religion completely from healthcare if we want to talk properly about life as it is. Most will call me a slut leftist but this isn't it. Science commands my brain. Not all of us can take care of a disabled offspring. Yet some keep it bc it's "gods will". Even though the kid will suffer its entire life. But as I said, how can I demand people to take such decisions when they can't even choose who they're marrying properly? Some kind of knowledge is luxury.
