Doing some fun stuffs lately, and I've come to the conclusion that N64 Mario has better movement and flow than 99.9% of games released in the past decade. It's the grail of movement comparisons for a state machine and it's only gotten more impressive the more I analyze it. Who has an example that beats it?

I know we’ve talked about this at great length, but leaving my comment here nonetheless :) the only examples I am confident beats it would probably be subsequent Mario games

Was kind of hoping someone would mention this haha I think the reason their later games felt smoother is because of how intense they made their base. Nearly every movement mechanic (except for power ups in later games) was built already, they just continually cleaned up their state machine over decades.
