you can actually bid for just one fan token the full amount you want to spend and don't need to do this math. If it ends up above the clearing price it's going to give you all the fan tokens you could get at the clearing price

I don't understand the math too, tbh. It's going to make the clearing price higher, but not in the way you're thinking.

As an example, when auctions first launched, I first bid 100k Farcaster Network FT for 1 token, and the clearing price went from 74 moxie to 75 moxie lol
