Ethereum is still the best chance we have of ushering in a more cypherpunk and free future for humanity.

My friend asked me the other day if he can take a collateralized debt position with his self custodied Bitcoin into a stablecoin to pay for a mortgage, without relying on a centralized exchange or incurring a taxable event. I don't think there is? Best advice is swap it for a wrapped BTC token on Ethereum and do a CDP there, but that's a taxable event. I don't believe the L2's being built on bitcoin have the necessary security properties to actually garner substantial liquidity (the bridges are only secured in one direction, not both afaikβ€”more like bridged sidechains than rollups). I think it will take more substantial upgrades for BTC to become a viable protocol for interesting activity. Plus ultimately I don't think there's a better design for rollups DA than a kind of blobs+DAS (ethereum, eigen, celestia, etc). Would be neat if the Bitcoin core devs pivoted into this world though. Just so hard to imagine given their priorities of ossification.
