Napoleonic troops executing Spanish rebels during the French occupation. The rebels - a Christ-like figure in white; state - faceless mass of soldiers. There’re no heroes there.

His dark period is really dark! It doesn’t translate at all in pictures. All these motives and figures are horrifying

Have a special affinity for Goya and his fearless grappling with the grotesque.

Goya is so goated, also that particular painting is my favourite one before he went full dark

It's a masterpiece from Goya. I know it from my childhood, the first time I visit the Prado Museum. He is beside another picture, the name is "La carga de los mamelucos" and is also very impressive.
