How long will you go out of your way
for people who don’t love you the same?
Aren’t you exhausted?
You blame yourself enough, but
I understand why you’re feeling defeated,
stomped on, abused and
mistreated.

Empathy is a practice in pain.
It’s absorbing unjust blows from
those who’ve somehow convinced you
they’re deserved.
It’s assuming blame for others shame.
It's walking a mile in their shoes,
knowing in advance
they wouldn’t budge for you.
