🎭 😮 The mask of the plague doctor in the Middle Ages. Back then, it was thought that diseases spread through smell. They noticed that the stench often emanated from the patients. Doctors were sure that pleasant aromas neutralize diseases. Therefore, grass was poured into the "beak", which filtered the air, interrupting any smell. They believed that medicinal herbs would purify the air and people would not get infected with the plague.
