Rome's calling card is the largest amphitheatre ever built by man. The total length of its walls is 527 metres and its height is 50 metres. The Colosseum was the arena for gladiatorial fights, sea battles and ๐ก dramatic performances. Up to 80,000 spectators could gather within its walls, hungry for spectacle and entertainment. When visiting, don't forget to see not only the arena, but also the underground levels open to the public - places where gladiators and wild animals waited to enter ๐ก the arena. The system included lifts and traps that allowed competitors to suddenly appear in the arena, adding drama to the spectacle.
