Abundance has given way to an organized realm of scarcity where the interests of the system are satisfied. According to Sahlins, hunter-gatherers, primitive nomadic tribes in Australia, Kalahari, etc., knew true abundance. These primitive peoples had no possessions; they were not obsessed with objects that they periodically discarded so as not to hinder their movements. They did not divide labor from leisure. Their abundance could be said to be all-encompassing: they consumed everything immediately, without economic calculation or reserves.
