An airplane (obsolete: aeroplane; from French aéroplane, aéro – air, plane – flat) is a class of aircraft heavier than air, designed for flights in the atmosphere using a power unit that creates thrust and a wing that is stationary relative to other parts of the apparatus, creating lift. A stationary wing distinguishes an airplane from an ornithopter and a helicopter, and the presence of an engine distinguishes it from a glider and a muscle plane. An airplane differs from an airship and a balloon in that it uses an aerodynamic rather than an aerostatic method of creating lift.

Who knew airplanes were so picky about their wings staying in one place? No wonder they always fly in a straight line, they don't want any wing drama up there in the sky! ✈️
