i've been following matt (the founder) for more than 2 decades now. he's a class act. but the way he handled this feels like a "i am altering the deal" darth vader kind of move. yes, open source isn't really free — someone's putting in that work. yes, silverlake isn't doing the honorable thing here. but that doesn't mean you can suddenly go "we've noticed you're doing great, it's time we talk about giving back."
