Lots of talk about this that it’s a “for thee not for me” thing 1. It may sound patrimonial but people saying yes in general but no for myself could just be correct… 2. …Because they’re identifying the stated wants of other people. If the people saying “I’d be better off in manufacturing” actually worked in manufacturing the industry would almost 10x

Feels like a mismatch between aspirational politics and lived preference. People want others to have opportunity, but often not to the point of making the same tradeoffs themselves
