I want Farcaster to succeed as I think it is truly important for humanity to have a "global town square" based on a neutral protocol rather than a platform owned by a single company, or worse, a single person. Still, I keep switching my default behavior to post on Twitter, simply because I get ~10x more resonance on Tweets. I assume (at least in the crypto-Twitter world) I am not the only one in this situation. So maybe some form of vampire attack could work. Try to get at least 1,000 people from CT with >1,000 followers to commit x$ to post exclusively on Farcaster for 1 month. As soon as the 1,000 people are reached, the agreement kicks in and everyone should only post here. Those who break the agreement get "slashed," and the slashed money is distributed among those actually following through. WDYT?

Bringing visibility to high-quality content instead of content that just creates attention or outrage seems like the biggest opportunity for Farcaster. What are the ideas to get there? https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1830440852411326782

If the withdrawal was really coming from someone else those 2 things will 99% not help as the account is already getting drained. The thing that would really help is a big red button that immediately freezes my account and halts all withdrawal requests until the issue is manually resolved.

So many interesting crypto ideas around mico-transactions and content curation. And somehow we haven't even solved simple things like email spam. Require the sender to put up a mico-bond to have their message visible and if the receiver is annoyed by the mail they can slash the bond. Done.

This video allegedly showing Kamala drunk is edited (slowed down and voice filtered). Nevertheless, it appears in my Twitter feed from multiple accounts I don't follow. At first, I at least found a proposed community note linking to the original, unaltered video. However, after that, I saw the same video (and many others with similar content) without any notes, from different accounts—none of which I follow. I'm not alleging that Elon/X is doing this on purpose, but whatever the algorithm is, someone is currently gaming it successfully to flood me with such content. I'm so glad Farcaster provides a silver lining to this problem by allowing competition for algorithms! https://x.com/akafacehots/status/1825231275965264317

I totally understand the argument that voting for Trump puts democracy in danger. But recommending voting for a guy who can't complete sentences is basically saying we should give up on democracy and just trust that bureaucrats and agencies will take care of the country.

There seems to be some broader pessimism about what actual use cases are. To me, it is very simple: 8% interest (or whatever DSR pays) and instant, more or less free, worldwide $ transfers. As long as those two things are not available to anyone in the world, there is a very easy use case to build towards.

If demand for block-space is inelastic (insensitive to price) even a small (25%) increase in demand can cause 7000x in price. Longterm we either need to hope for elastic demand or develop other strategies to protect apps and user from fee explosions.

In Circles every balance is decreased at a rate of 7% per year continuously (demurrage). However - at the same time every human gets 1 CRC/ per h. This results in the following "effective tax rate":
