there are some cases where you can create/buy alignment a good example is the auto-follow list deployed by Merkle created some powerhouse posters aligned with the success of Farcaster

i would say that alignment was earned, not bought. farcaster gave those ppl new friendships, a great product experience, and financial opportunities

i can see it both ways tbh maybe it's not as clear cut and depends where you're standing do employers buy your time or do you earn your wage? feels like a kind of similar ballpark question

employers pay you for your time and you earn your wage for working alignment is whether or not you care about the success of the employer and want to share upside with them if you make the arg that farcaster "paid" early users in the form of distribution via autofollow list, then alignment would be if those users care about farcaster's upside and want to help it grow -- this alignment is something that farcaster must earn from its users, and they have imo

i'm not saying you're wrong, but i do think you can look at it from another angle in that after the distribution received via auto-follow, those users would be incentivised to help farcaster grow and increase upside, if those users thought they could benefit from the larger platform it feels more reciprocal than farcaster having earned alignment as a starting off point it feels more like early users got more reason to get into alignment, and farcaster then proved that they were worthy of more of it my initial point was that alignment isn't just something you have to wait to be earned from you, but something that you can also create through reciprocal relationship with others, there's a more dynamic give and take creating and maintaining alignment between parties can be super valuable you can give some actions of alignment and then wait to be proven right or wrong, it doesn't feel like it has to be an all-or-nothing kind of thing to me which is also why i agree that sell-shaming is no bueno
