"Helping people" is a super broad goal and different people obviously have different needs. Personally, I think certain basic needs (food, water, medicine, shelter, mental health), financial support systems, as well as education and networking, would be the areas I would focus on, as they are the areas I have seen act as springboards or pillars of opportunity. Firstly, by allowing people to have access to basic needs they might not ordinarily have would give them a foundation to build upon. Beyond that, setting up educational programs for people to learn and gain the skills they want, which would then open up access to support systems attached to what they have learned based on the completion of education programs/modules. For example, if a person wants to learn how to grow food or start a small business, giving them the access to that knowledge and then also the ongoing support (financial and otherwise) to realise that goal.

Otherwise, if I had the dough, I'd probably buy a sports team. Not sure that "helps" anyone though ๐Ÿ˜‚

True, a lot of sports teams can affect meaningful change at a grassroots level but you also need to be able to generate revenue and turn a profit. A lot of that comes through business savvy as well as being able to identify talent early on and then on-sell. Interesting, golf donates more annually than the NBA, MLB, and NFL sports leagues combined.

itโ€™s interesting how a sports team can lift the surrounding area and community, as well as instil culture amongst their fan base through how they play and how staff conduct themselves and communicate w supporters

Agreed! My hometown football club (the Central Coast Mariners) is a prime example of this. They have had players past and present do great work in the community, and the former manager is currently mayor! They are also: - One of the smallest clubs in the league - the only club to exist outside a major metropolitan area - The only major sports team of any code in the region - Championing extensive grassroots programs - The best club nationally springboarding young talent to overseas clubs and/or into the national team, all while competing with a City Football Group entity (Melbourne City) and other much better funded franchises
