are you loading the fonts? and setting the chartset on the template? the entire frame cannot support lazyloaded fonts if it's done by d3 dynamically. you need to load it on the header.

I'm generating the chart first as svg then blah blah blah

getting there but this feels like two steps backward

chart looks good, just the fonts aren't loading 👍
