Yes! It exposes the cast to all of your followers home feed algorithm.

Also liking and replying to a cast will make it more likely to appear in home feeds as well.

This sounds like if I recast a cast from someone you don't follow, the recast should make it show up on your home feed since you follow me. Would be nice if it was clearly explained on docs.farcaster.xyz
