A fancy version of “to-do” lists contributes significantly to my productivity. It’s one of the 7 Habits from Stephen Covey’s book. Years ago, I started with a grocery list of things to do. It wasn’t good enough. I prioritized them, but it still wasn’t good enough. Each item had sub-tasks so I needed more visibility. I tried many other versions including using Notes in Microsoft and other productivity apps. To date, I’m using something that an engineer from Toyota created called, KanBan.
I use MS Excel and each tab at the bottom of the worksheet is a separate active project. Inside each tab is a list of prioritized sub-tasks that have due dates, ownership, notes, comments, etc. I used macros to filter the ones coming due and that becomes my to-do list for each day.
Importantly, what goes into the KanBan must be specific and clear and not too “big”. If it’s too big, it needs to be broken into smaller pieces.
Another thing I try to do is meditate so I’m more focused. 3 replies
