Just picked up my renewed Estonian e-resident Id! I’ve been now an Estonian e-resident for 5+ years.
In 2019 Germany unbanked me due to an error from my accountant (who ghosted me on the spot), leaving me with no access to my main bank account of 7 years for 6 months. Almost lost my health insurance and missed rent payments, made it through with the help of friends and OTC crypto. That made me rethink every single point of centralized personhood in my life. It took me months of work to become more resilient, and included finding a new country to diversify business.
While im long crypto and that’s my #1 source of resiliency, diversifying business ops between Estonia and Germany, and being lucky to have birthright dual citizenship helps me feel safer. Getting unbanked by request of the Finance authority (and no fault of mine) is no joke.
