There is the reality that you think you know, and then there is the reality of how the world actually works. Throughout our childhood and while growing up we have all been lied to. We’ve been told that you need to go to university, that you need a car, buy a house, and the newest electronics. We have been fed a constant dose of capitalism, and you’ll be able to become happy by finally obtaining them. While having money can reduce stress in your life, the truth is that “things” will never make you happy in the long term.
We have been trained to be constantly wanting and having an appetite or thirst that can never be quenched. As soon as you have bought that new iPhone or pair of shoes you’ve been wanting for ages, you are already thinking about the next thing you want. Most of us understand that companies will do anything they can do, even if it means lying, in order to convince us to buy their products. After all, many of us do live in a capitalist society.
