In 1939, when Kansas Wheat Company officials noticed that poor mothers were using their packaging fabric to make clothes for their children, they began using patterned fabrics for packaging so that poor children would have more beautiful clothes. As a kindness, they made sure that the company's logo would be removed from the fabric with the first wash.
