Asset-backed cryptocurrencies (stablecoins) can also be considered payment currencies. Such currencies are usually tied to traditional assets and, while their price is equal to fiat currencies, also have the efficiency and transparency of cryptocurrencies. An example of a stablecoin is Tether, where each Tether is equivalent to one dollar.
