P.S.M. is an abstract machine animated using the color cycling technique—where motion is simulated not by moving pixels, but by shifting values within the color palette. The technique was employed in early video games to create animation without consuming significant memory. ↓

In most pieces from my long-running machineworks, I aimed to create complex loops with minimal frames(24 to 48). With Perpetual Stillness Machine, I pushed that further—just 8 frames. Yet if you follow a single box, a full loop takes about 18 seconds. ↓

Color cycling was a key feature of Deluxe Paint on the Amiga. While it still works via emulators, I wanted to integrate it into my workflow—so I built a custom color cycling script for Aseprite. If there's interest, I’ll release it publicly after a few tweaks. ↓
