In trad art there’s a strong narrative around secondary sales. In web3, primary market sales seems to drive the narrative. It seems like the market is always looking ahead. And the secondary market, especially for 1/1s is less active. I think that’ll change and more folks will prioritize looking backwards when collecting, opposed to what’s current.

The only reason why strong narratives in secondary sales is cos galleries and auction houses can make the most amount of money, leaving artists totally out of any profits made. ie it is systematically made that way to gear attention to the secondary. For most part that doesn’t happen in web3 because we don’t have the gatekeepers dominating the narrative. It is still the collectors and artists. However in say 30 years time when the artists have matured in web3, the. We should see more action on the secondary. And after 50 years when the artist has passed away then there could be more focus on the secondary since there is no primary left.

galleries and even some curator/marketplaces are all the same (well many if they want to stay in business). it has never been in the artist favor no matter what part of the business it is. i also believe a lot of web 3 artists are simply young and dont have the life experience to navigate the art world. not even a diss. it is a superficial cutthroat world and most get eaten up! web3 is the same except its public for all to see on social media.

Totally! Agree with you. The art industry is extremely ugly and money driven, and surprisingly not about art🤣 I was in it for a brief moment and saw it first hand. It’s just business, and creativity does not mix like water and oil. Creatives are like water and the industry is oil… art, music, film, they are all the same mechanism to drive profit for the industry. web3 has the potential to put the artists at the forefront, but again, it depends on the integrity of the “galleries” and “curators” to not want to put their bag first. At least we get small creator royalties in web3, which is better than the real world…🤔
