I am on v3 of the house design. v3 included only one change....increasing the overhang on the front of the house to make sure that sun is excluded entirely from shining through the widows from the start May to the start of September. It's not perfect, but its about as close to it as I can get. Here is a temp chart for Deming, and a v3 view of the overhangs. It is not nearly as hot as Arizona desert because of the increased elevation. ❤️

have you considered more extreme pitch and window row below roof line?

For what purpose? More extreme pitch will require an even longer overhang.

Anything that adds complexity has to go out the window. "ultra affordable" is the main part of my design. I like a cleaner look too.

same you could accomplish the same thing with regular shutters (or boards) flexible natural light

Yeah but shutters add cost also. Designing the window overhang eliminates the need ylfor anything like that. I will add a skylight above the kitchen island and a skylight in the closet to supplement light.
