The Old Guitarist was painted in 1903-1904 in Picasso's "blue" period; A period in Pablo Picasso's artistic life that includes the years 1901 to 1904. He was 19 years old at the beginning of this period. The characteristic of the paintings created in this period is their blue and green color; Paintings with a sad atmosphere that show poor people, drunkards and beggars. The suicide of one of Picasso's friends named "Carlos Casagasms" was one of the important and influential events of the blue period.
