4 years ago what was intended to be a 15 minute nap ended up becoming  a 6 hour flirtation with a diabetic coma, blood glucose of 41 mmol/L, followed by 5 days hospitalized in the middle of the 2nd wave of the covid pandemic followed by three months of blindness, weekly battles to remain on short term disability leave, months fighting severe depression while navigating a decrepit healthcare system and inhumane health insurance policies all while living alone.

The old me is long gone and dead, but I’m starting to like the new version a lot more lately (finally).

Hey Aaron. My husband is also diagnosed with diabetes and he was once in coma for a week…I’m glad you start liking the new version of yourself, because it’s a very special trip that not many people can understand. As my husband always says “well, now I am like a manual car”.

Very true! At times it’s been a very isolating experience. I like the car reference! I require a lot of maintenance for every “hour on the road”, that’s for sure 😂
