Decentralized custody, such that an individual gets ‘bank like’ security protections without centralized control to take or away.

So then all the explanation, hassle & fear of self custody can fade away while the promise of independent ownership can stay.

Do you mean some hybrid of fully non-custodial and custodial (eg best of both worlds)?

Its a good thing to think thru tho.  Social recovery should play a strong role here (similiar to “forgot your password”).

Most users wont have life savings onchain, just fairly small amts of value

Yeah, a wishful thinking, Goldilocks, best of both worlds solution.

Multi sig is in the neighborhood but still a big pain for a new user to grasp *why*, much less use.

Entire generations barely ever use cash, certainly not in large amounts. 

But products will struggle that lead with confusion & end with fear.
