Books for foodies! Recently devoured these two books and love how food the role of food is so different in each. Both also center around 2 female characters, Taiwan Travelogue exploring power imbalances between coloniser and colonised, Butter exploring misogyny and autonomy in Japanese culture. Butter was oddly unsatisfying, but I personally get that feeling with most Japanese books I read lol. There’s a tone that doesn’t quite resonate with me. 5 stars for Taiwan Travelogue though, yummy descriptions and heartbreaking at points.
