Can't imagine the thought process of folks who physically COULD not do a job. Sweating in an air-conditioned room, saying the people doing that job deserve less and need to be quieter. #longshoremenstrike

Nah the union demands are anti technology and anti automation. I want faster better ports, we shouldn’t be stuck with 1960’s logistics 🚢 11 $degen

Leverage exists in the hands of he who wields the force mechanism... things like this are simple, thats why strikes either work or dont work Technology and automation will either rise in this VERY moment and say we can fill these needs today, tell them never come back... we got this OR Those that wish for better, faster, cheaper will have to concede to the current demands of the soon-to-be outsourced and perhaps not cheer for the comet that is gonna hit their planet There is a large segment of labor/agriculture that tech REALLY needs to stop saying the quite parts loud to... what they hear is "a good portion of society does NOT respect you, your labor, or your viewpoint" what they KNOW is that currently you need them... desperately i say play the card while you have it

While I empathize with the sentiment, the demands result in a worse outcome for everyone. We can see the benefits of automation and tech in ports in China/Singapore. Ignoring the benefits of technology results in worse efficiency, worse safety, and higher cost of goods. This means worse service quality. It’s a step backwards for society. I’m sure there will be a compromise reached where everyone isn’t replaced by robots. But the demands are unreasonable. I stand against the “fuck everyone except for me” mentality of the demands

Again... i understand what you mean (i think) how that reads is a robot is knocking at the front door of a building your dad and grandad worked at and its saying "we are not gonna kill all of you" someone asks.. "do you mean right away or EVER" the robot repeats "beep boop.. im not gonna kill all of you" and a bunch of people who think you are too uneducated to decide your own future scream "LET HIM IN SO I CAN GET MY SHIT FASTER" Longshoreman is a thing... its big where im from So i see the humanity in them Its hard... and thankless and there are guys i know who are like 4th and 5th generation it was a GREAT job, and it was hard... it was supposed to be people FOUGHT for fastfood workers.. that was like 4min ago

It’s just extortion that screws everyone else over. Cancel ATMs to save the bank tellers 🙄 Sanitation workers should sweep the streets by hand 🧹 Forget cell phones we should go back to having telegraph operators ☎️ Get rid of cars to employ more horses 🐴 Silly silly reasoning 🙄

There is a large difference between clamoring for the world to skew luddite, and thinking the people who do the hard, dangerous, dirty, and difficult jobs deserve to be paid adequately for it. there is a wafting sentiment that vocations that do not require a college degree are somehow "less than" while you personally may not feel that way the perception is made woefully clear to the people who maintain our crucial infrastructure that we do not value them and are happily awaiting their position to be filled by something that doesn't require a bathroom break happy workers dont strike... fairly paid workers dont strike... people who dont feel threatened wouldnt dream of it but i get it... its like watching Star Wars and cheering for the Death Star goods that are DEVASTATED by this very small adjustment perhaps were not strong enough to be in business For example... if the ONLY way you can get cotton is if a slave picks it for you then perhaps you need to consider silk or polyester. how matters

The work doesn’t have to be as hard or as dangerous or as dirty- that’s the whole point!

That is not what is being proposed... respectfully They are not saying "dont make our lives better", they want to have a say in their destiny they would like protection against well... tbh, voices that sound like yours saying "cant we just automate this" and take an underpaid 400 down to a VERY underpaid 80, killing their retirement, changing their deal, and dealing them death, while asking them to load the machines that will replace them onto the dock and again... i get it what happens to those people is of little concern to PWWSF (people who want shit faster) so i think this is an apathy mirror

It's funny how they want us to be more like Singapore & China. People easily forget how this country was built and where are real strength comes from. Our ability and freedom to fight against a system that is taking advantage of our work without fair compensation.
