The Toyota name originates from the Toyoda family. Kiichiro Toyoda, son of the company's founder, Sakichi Toyoda, founded the automobile division in the early 1930s. At the time, Toyoda was world-renowned for its invention of the Model G automatic loom. The company's first production cars were also marketed under the Toyoda name.
