What’s the difference between base and optimism?

from my personal observation, Base seems to have a greater focus on a lower barrier to entry, creative endeavors, & pushing to be a more broadly used ecosystem for onchain media & commerce with fewer middlemen. 

A q - since you’re getting started, what’s your primary interest, like DeFi or art or building etc?

Base is a chain built off the OP stack while OP mainnet is the native chain of optimism
