> Garman then explained how Nitro started Amazon down the path to building its own silicon, including Graviton, its ARM-based alternative to Intel and AMD, which Garman said offers 40% better price performance and 60% better energy utilization than x86. Garman also said that the amount of Graviton compute on AWS today exceeds the total amount of compute on the service in 2019 when Graviton launched. Amazon's verticalized silicon compounding only second to Apple.
