1/19 This chunk of text has been sitting in my notes for a day now. Was not sure if I wanted to share it, but feel like it is a good time to do. Sit tight, it will be a long read.

2/19 Hey. I want to share my thoughts regarding this week and what basically went down in $degen, simply put: bans. I have shared my opinion a lot, so this will be the last thread that is somewhat related to this week.

3/19 First of all, to summarize real short, I'm against banning people even if it's temporary. I've been banned and unbanned at least twice this week. And if I'm completely honest; the bans scared the shit out of me as it was something I wasn't expecting and it affected almost every degen. First thought: "yup, $degen is f'd".

4/19 Now, after I have spent most of the time on Farcaster, reading and listening to Jacek, I can - with a huge relief - say that I'm feeling way more confident about the future of $degen.

5/19 You may think "sure, users who claimed their tokens are becoming less vocal and changing their minds" and stuff, but no. 
I've been thinking about why Jacek changed the rules at the end of the season and (in)directly make himself the most hated Dev on Farcaster.

7/19 Ok, so, looking from another perspective than I have done the last few days, I think the changes will have mostly positive impact on $degen's future, big if though, IF Jacek handles it well and contributes to his own goal. I think you know what his goal is with $degen and especially the tips.

8/19 Imagine you are an outsider, no matter your background, interests, investor or not, etc. and you somehow learn about $degen. The airdrops, tipping, and all other things that can be said about $degen. What would be your first reaction?

9/19 Now imagine you have some capital in crypto, and you somehow learn about $degen. Tipping, airdrops, you know it. What would be your first reaction? Buy or nah?

10/19 What I'm observing lately is that people on Farcaster are way too much depending on the tips they receive. I don't want to say the majority, but a lot use their tips to pay for bills etc. Which is totally fine, please don't get me wrong, but we are in a cycle now. Lock, tip, receive, claim, sell, pay bills, repeat. Is that something we should aim for as a community? Are those people really wearing the hat or are they generating a monthly income from tipping?

11/19 What I'm trying to build up to is that Jacek directly or indirectly probably realized that $degen in itself is in a never ending cycle. Bad for business if you ask me. Again, those are all personal opinions and thoughts, but even if I'm only a little bit right this change in tipping-rules and everything related to that, is imo positive for $degen and the future.

12/19 Why? Well I don't need to tell you, as non-degens show that Jacek is right in fighting the current system - with risks. They threaten to take the hat off. Some already moved on. Not so degen, right? But most importantly: inflation, as mentioned by Jacek.

As of now, 80% or more of the community is either mad or disappointed. 

This may sound selfish (is not), but imo Jacek has a HUGE opportunity to turn this around. 

How? Show that you appreciate the community and the REAL holders. You wanna fight inflation? Show commitment. Show growth with $degen.

I would love to see Airdrop 3, and I hope it will be built in such a way to reward builders and contributors to the community and Degen chain.

For reference; look at what the Optimism team has been doing with retro fund rounds. I had the privilege to join as a guest voter. Not hard but rewarding.

I was lucky enough to be randomly chosen by the OP team. Have reviewed approx. 20 projects on the OP ecosystem - that really benefit OP. Builders build, voters vote. In the end, builders get rewarded based on the impact on the ecosystem. I think a huge opportunity for $degen, specifically degen chain.

15/19 I don't know what the plans are with Airdrop 3, and they may even going a completely different way, but imo it should be focused on rewarding builders and quality content creators as Jacek really has been emphasizing on that.

16/19 Ps. quality content is something that needs to become clear for everyone. Quality content can be in terms of sharing memes for a good laugh, but quality content can also be developing dApps, frames and stuff.

17/19 However, putting all of this on Jacek's shoulders is not fair. We - as a community - have to step up and move in the best interests of our bags, and no I'm not talking about the tips. I'm talking about our locked $degen and $degen we are holding outside the vault.

18/19 Let's be honest, $degen has changed many lifes, created many opportunities and I believe it still is far from done. Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I've always trusted my gut feeling and this time I won't act different. Time will tell if we were right.

19/19 Long story short; if we want to make $degen great (again), we need to shift the attention from tip-to-earn to build-to-earn.

6/19 Ps., before we continue, those are all guesses and my personal opinion. I've never spoken with Jacek nor anyone really close to $degen or the team. But I appreciate your time. It shows that you value my thoughts, or you are here to tell me I'm an idiot. Either way, we still can be friends. "We are friends thoughhh".
