Great ideas chase you. It is hard to come up with "great" / "creative" ideas, but rather, they seem hidden in ideas that keep coming back to you, chase you, in a way haunt you. Keep coming back. 

And then, when these ideas come to visit, disguised as distractions, you say, "Hey go away! I'm trying to have a good idea"

One way to think about it, is being open and playful. I think there is a time to have opinion-based decisions (gut, what your gut says) and there is a time to have data-based decisions (data, what the past says) - for the first version of things, new things - it's mostly opinion based: how you feel, who you are.
