Here’s a random idea: The institutions, those in power, the terms we use to describe our relationships, they change over the course of history, our ancestors had different world views and different perspectives What if the questions we wrestle with day to day haven’t fundamentally changed that much a priori?

You hit the nail on the head. This is the first-order question I've been mulling over, and which led to this second-order question I shared. Its easier to answer the second-order question, the answer to which helps narrow the field of potential answers to the first order question.
